Thecus Launches Cavium-Powered NAS

Taipei, TaiwanThecus has introduced its first four-bay NAS to be equipped with a dual-core Cavium CPU. Known as the N4100EVO, this NAS is able to give you the performance you need for fast file sharing, web hosting, and even heavy-duty backups. There are two USB 2.0 ports to allow users to connect external hard disks and other input devices. There is also the option to connect an LCD monitor for easier maintenance.

The N4100EVO is also one of the first consumer-level NAS on the market to feature an XOR Engine. With the XOR Engine, the processing power needed to process data from a RAID configuration is taken off the processor, allowing this NAS to perform optimally regardless of its configuration.

On the firmware side, Thecus adopts an open source module system that allows users to develop their own modules for use with this NAS. There are currently more than a dozen free modules available on the Thecus website, including a download manager for BitTorrent, support for Piczza! photo server, and a Web Disk module to easily upload and download data. Out of the box, the N4100EVO also supports XFS, 3TB HDDs, SATA6 Gb/s devices, and iSCSI.
