Sony launches the Alpha 99 II, Alpha 6500 and Cyber-shot RX100 V
At an event held earlier today, Sony Malaysia officially launched three cameras, namely the Alpha 99 II, Alpha 6500, and Cyber-shot RX100 V. We’ve reviewed the RX100 V, and have also featured the Alpha 6500 here, so we’ll be focusing more on the Alpha 99 II.
It’s been about four years since we’ve heard about an A-mount camera from Sony (the Alpha 77 II), and now out of nowhere, there’s a new flagship camera for this family. This camera features Hybrid Phase Detection for continuous autofocusing when shooting in burst mode, and a 5-axis in-body image stabilization system.
The Alpha 99 II is a full-frame camera, and offers 42.4MP of resolution. What’s interesting though, is a new mode called ‘S&Q’, which lets the camera record in 1 fps, to 120 fps. Essentially, the end result is a video that features both fast-forwarded motion, as well as slow motion.
Apart from that, this camera shoots 4K videos in the Super 35mm format, at full pixel readout, without pixel binning.
ISO performance is 100 to 25,600, and can be expanded to 50 and 102,400. Burst mode is up to 12 fps, with continuous autofocusing and auto exposure.
Eager to get your hands on one? You’ll need to set aside RM12,299 (body only). The Alpha 6500 is going for RM6,499 (body only), and the Cyber-Shot RX100 V is priced at RM4,599.
