LG Optimus Vu Officially Announced, Comes with 5-inch IPS Display

Just recently, LG sent out a teaser for the LG Optimus Vu, touted to sport a 5-inch IPS display and looking to challenge the Samsung Galaxy Note. The Korean company has made it official, with a press release announcing its upcoming launch at the Mobile World Congress 2012.
The official announcement also confirmed our earlier news on its specifications, which includes a dual-core 1.5GHz processor by Qualcomm and a 1024 x 768 display resolution on the 5-inch IPS panel. To recap, the following specs have been confirmed.
- Qualcomm dual-core 1.5GHz processor
- 5-inch IPS display with 1024 x 768 pixels
- 8-megapixel camera
- Google Android 2.3
What's new to us is the inclusion of a 32GB internal storage and a 2080mAh battery to power the Optimus Vu. The latter is significantly lower than Samsung's Galaxy Note, which has a 2500mAh battery to power its slightly larger 5.3-inch HD Super AMOLED display.
Speaking of displays, you might have noticed how the Optimus Vu takes on a more squarish look to its design. This is due to the 4:3 aspect ratio for its display, which is quite rare given that most devices are adopting a 16:9 or 16:10 aspect ratio in their design. Perhaps the one advantage that the Optimus Vu has over its competitor is its dimensions with its 8.5mm profile while the Galaxy Note measures 9.65mm.
LG has also stated that though the Optimus Vu will be preloaded with Google Android 2.3, the company will be pushing the Ice Cream Sandwich update to the Android smartphone within three months from its launch.
