Lexmark Provides IIUM with Smart Printing Solutions

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – With four campuses and 150 employees and over 20,000 students, printing was very costly for the International Islamic University of Malaysia (IIUM). But after Lexmark International (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd via its solutions partner, Ambang Ideal Sdn Bhd deployed the Lexmark Document Accounting Solutions (LDAS) and more than 20 Multi-Function Printers (MFP) across IIUM campuses in Gombak, Kuantan, Petaling Jaya and Damansara, IIUM has recorded a reduction of 30% in printing expenses or approximately RM100,000 to RM150,000 annually.

“After evaluating IIUM’s printing needs, we decided to recommend the deployment of the Lexmark Document Accounting Solution (LDAS), which provides real-time accounting, pre-pay functionality to reduce paper waste from unnecessary print jobs, and a secure print environment that offers flexibility to its users. The implementation and user training process, via our solutions partner Ambang Ideal Sdn Bhd, was completed within 7 days, an excellent outcome for everyone,” said Larry Leow, Country Manager, Malaysia, Lexmark International.

“The implementation of the Lexmark Document Accounting Solution (LDAS) has been really helpful for the management at IIUM. The students and staff enjoy Lexmark’s printing solutions while the IT department appreciates getting exposure to the latest technology in printing infrastructure. The management is now able to accurately monitor students’ usage of printing resources, and can bill them accurately for print and copy jobs released using their IDs. Students can photocopy, print saved documents or scan at any of the Lexmark print stations located at strategic points across the campus. They can even save print jobs linked to their student ID on the university server for 7 days, viewing or deleting their saved files online during this time. As a result, students, and even staff, have become considerably more aware and accountable for their printing habits. This system has helped us tremendously in reducing paper and ink wastage, for greater savings and a greener organization,” elaborated Nooraini Ismail, Head Librarian, IIUM.

“We are very pleased that IIUM has reported a vast reduction in equipment downtime and registered far fewer complaints from students, at no additional burden to their human resource department. As Ambang Ideal is managing the Lexmark MFPs, the supply of consumables and providing technical support, we have helped reduce IIUM’s asset management worries when it comes to their printing, copying and scanning needs,” said Muhammad Shukri Mustaffa, Managing Director of Ambang Ideal Sdn Bhd.
