Going Places with TomTom and Samsung

Dutch automotive navigation systems manufacturer, TomTom has recently signed a strategic deal with Samsung to provide its maps and location content for Wave3 smartphones. The agreement will give Wave3 users access to TomTom's global maps and premium location content, offering a map coverage of over 200 countries globally, which totals up to over 35 million kilometers of road network.

“Signing the deal with Samsung highlights TomTom’s ability to deliver the map and enhanced content needed to enable the location based services for wireless users,” said Charles Cautley, Managing Director of TomTom Automotive and Licensing. “TomTom is excited to collaborate with the global leader in the smartphone market.”

TomTom on the Wave3 will also provide information on points of interests and deliver live road conditions via Enterprise Traffic, as well as location alerts for speed cameras. Equipped with 3D City Maps and 3D Landmarks, users will be able to pinpoint their location with improved clarity, thanks to the visual-orientation aid which helps enhance recognition.

“As we strive to deliver innovations for the global smartphone market, location-enabled content and applications are increasingly important to our customers,” said David Noh, Vice President & Head of Technology Alliance Group. “We needed a partner that could deliver to our strict requirements for quality and TomTom rose to the occasion.”
