CES 2017: Intel's newest NUC systems are the smallest media PCs that support 4K
With the launch of the 7th gen Core processors for all desktop and mobile form factor systems, it was time for Intel to refresh its NUC system kits. Thanks to the new processors, all of the new NUC systems are a perfect shoe-in for use as a media center to stream 4K premium content.
A total of five models were launched – one Core i7 model, two Core i5 models and to Core i3 machines. The latter two processor options come in two models that basically only differ in the NUC machine’s height – 51mm vs. 35mm. The taller variant basically has space to accommodate a 2.5-inch drive.
All systems now have Intel Optane memory support and sport HDMI 2.0 for 4K/60 output. Both the Core i5 and Core i7 models also sport a Thunderbolt 3 port and have upgraded graphics engines in the form of their integrated Intel Iris Plus graphics.
Availability-wise, the Core i3 model will be available almost immediately, while the other models should hit retail by the end of Q1. Pricing will be revealed later but we were told it would be in-line with existing NUC SKUs.
