Airport Express Gets Updated by Apple

A great deal of attention was devoted to Apple's iOS 6 and MacBook series during their recent WWDC conference. There was a little Tweet by Tilde's engineer Patrick Gibson, however, which gave Apple's game away. Yes, Tim Cook and gang have finally updated the AirPort Express, a compact wireless router with a visible lack of enhancements since 2008. Physical changes include a new white Apple TV-esque design instead of a 'homeplug' profile. And in place of a HDMI port are WAN and LAN connectors, a USB slot, and an optical audio jack.
The updated AirPort Express also mimics the bigger AirPort Extreme's most attractive feature - its simultaneous dual-band 802.11n capabilities. In other words, Apple users can now connect their iPhones over the 2.4GHz band, while reserving the 5GHz network for more demanding gadgets like Macs or iPads. Other than that, basic features of the AirPort Express still apply. Use it as a wireless bridge or access point, an AirPlay receiver for your speakers, or magically transform your printer into a wireless printing device. Also note that the USB port is only friendly with printers, meaning you can't use it to connect any external storage devices for network sharing purposes.
The revamped AirPort Express is available on Apple's MY site for RM299.
