Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – Since 2008, Maxis Berhad has been working closely with the Ministry of Information Communications and Culture Malaysia (KPKK) and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (SKMM) to host the ASEAN Cyberkids Camp (ACC) annually.

Following the theme of ‘Our Children, Our Future’, this year’s ACC played host to 91 ASEAN and Asian students between 13 to 16 years of age as well as teachers from 11 countries. The camp took place at the Cyberview Lodge Resort and Spa in Cyberjaya from 21 to 27 November.

This year, besides a preview of future communications technology and 21st Century learning devices, the ACC also emphasized on cultural education. As a result, Malaysian participants were paired with an ASEAN counterpart as part of a new buddy system.

As an initiative to encourage continued participation with ASEAN participants, the ‘ASEAN Cyberkids Challenge’ competition required participants to start a project during the ACC and complete it in their respective home countries for prizes.

Maxis’ Chairman, Raja Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Arshad Bin Raja Tun Uda explained that “To compete on a global level, it is vital that our ASEAN Youth also have digital literacy. We need to equip them with critical 21st Century skills relating to communication, collaboration, innovation, creativity, critical thinking, problem solving, logic and reasoning.”

Maxis’ efforts towards the ACC are a regional extension of the Maxis Cyberkids Camp series, a Bridging Communities CSR project, launched back in 2002.
